Established in 1966 by Anna Plowden and Peter Smith, Plowden & Smith Limited is the largest fine and decorative art conservation, museum services and mount making company in the United Kingdom.

Plowden & Smith have conserved and restored major collections, priceless artefacts and national monuments for some of the most iconic institutions and respected private collectors around the world. Past and present clients include The Royal Family, V&A Museum, Museum of Science and Industry, The British Museum, Qatar Museum of Islamic Art, The National Trust, Kuwait Oil Company, King Abdulaziz Center for World Culture, Bahrain National Charter Monument, The Royal Mint, Westminster Abbey, The Palace of Westminster as well as many major UK museums, corporate and national collections.

Plowden & Smith continually critically assess new approaches to the conservation of contemporary art and make an active contribution to an international research agenda. This includes providing support to staff and researchers who are engaged in conservation practices on contemporary art that will develop the theoretical, methodological and ethical study of contemporary art conservation. Since 2015 Plowden & Smith are delighted to have been a partner in a ground-breaking UCL research project looking at nanotechnology for the conservation of plastics.
