Claire our HLF supported conservation intern at work at the Tower of London

Training and education is fundamental to Plowden and Smith’s working practice, we have four conservators accredited by the Institute of Conservation (ICON) and encourage senior staff to achieve this. Our staff undertake professional development and are continuously learning through the challenging projects that regularly enter the workshop. We are active contributors to recognised conservation related training courses in the UK and abroad, including West Dean, Lincoln University, University College London and London Metropolitan University. Senior members of staff mentor students on placement in the workshop and have been external assessors for conservation degree courses and tutored on specialist courses.

We are proud to be contributing to the invaluable Heritage Lottery Fund conservation internship managed by the Institute of Conservation (ICON) in 2010 and 2011. We are currently hosting a 12 month decorative surfaces conservation placement and a 12 month mount making technician.
